Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Pique (the "App"), operated by Pique ("we", "our", "us"). By creating an account or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Eligibility

Pique is not for children. You must be at least 17 years old to use Pique. You also represent that you are legally able to enter into this agreement in your jurisdiction.

2. Account and security

  • A guest (anonymous) account is created for you automatically when you start. You may optionally link a Google or Apple identity. You are responsible for keeping access to that identity secure.
  • You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account. If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, contact hello@playpique.com immediately.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, as described in Section 9.

3. Using the App

Pique is an app for couples. Version 2.0 has Daily Thread (a question a day for the two of you), Couples Journey (question chapters you play together), games for two (Who's More Likely To and PDA Comfort Check), the Anniversary countdown and Sparks. Earlier versions (1.0.x) also have two group games for friends, Roast Mode and Open Book; Section 3A covers them. You agree to use the App only for personal, non-commercial purposes and only as intended.

Acceptable use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use the App to harass, bully, threaten, or harm another person.
  • Post or submit content that is illegal, hateful, discriminatory (based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, or any protected class), sexually explicit, violent, or that sexualises minors.
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity in a way that deceives others.
  • Share content that violates another person's privacy, defames them, or infringes their intellectual property.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent any technical protection of the App.
  • Use the App in a way that interferes with other users, damages our infrastructure, or breaches these Terms.

Partners and rooms

You link with a partner, or join a game room, only with a private code that someone gives you. Either partner can disconnect at any time in Profile → About us → Disconnect partner.

Reporting

If content in the App is abusive, threatening, discriminatory, sexually explicit, harassing, or otherwise violates these Terms, you can report it via Profile → Support / Report (Profile → Support in version 1.0.x), which opens an email to hello@playpique.com. Include what happened, the approximate time, the room code if there was one, and screenshots if available. We may remove access, disable accounts, or take other action where content violates these Terms.

For users of version 1.0.x

3A. Earlier versions of Pique (1.0.x): group games

Versions 1.0.x also include Roast Mode (group game with humour) and Open Book (group game with voting). Version 2.0 does not include them. If you play them in a 1.0.x version, these rules also apply.

Roast Mode — specific rules

Roast Mode is designed as honest, specific, affectionate humour between friends. The App offers three intensity levels (Playful, Sharp, Unfiltered) and provides rule prompts at the start of every game, including:

  • Roast the habit, not the history.
  • Keep it funny, not cruel.
  • Anyone can skip a roast. No questions asked.

You are responsible for what you write. Do not use Roast Mode to target, harm, or harass any participant. If you feel content in a room crosses a line, the host can end the session at any time. Screenshots and shares of roast content are your responsibility — obtain consent from participants before sharing outside the room.

Content filtering and reporting

Pique applies an automatic content filter to user-typed text in Roast Mode and Open Book. If your message contains terms we do not allow (slurs, sexually explicit terms involving minors, threats of violence, and similar prohibited categories), the app will warn you and prevent you from submitting that message.

If content in a room is abusive, threatening, discriminatory, sexually explicit, harassing, or otherwise violates these Terms, you can report it via Profile → Support, which opens an email to hello@playpique.com. Include the room code, approximate time, and screenshots if available. We may remove access, disable accounts, or take other action where content violates these Terms.

4. Your content

You retain ownership of everything you write in the App — your Daily Thread answers, Couples Journey and game answers, the names you give anniversary dates, your display name and avatar, and, in version 1.0.x, your roasts and Open Book answers ("Your Content").

By using the App, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, transmit, and process Your Content solely to operate the App — for example, to deliver your answer to your partner, show your answers to the other player in a room, display a roast to the intended room (1.0.x), or show your avatar to the people you play with. This license ends when you delete Your Content or close your account, except for content that has been shared with other users who may have retained their own copy.

We do not claim ownership of Your Content. We do not use Your Content to train machine learning models. We do not sell Your Content.

5. In-app purchases

  • Pique offers one-time in-app purchases via the Apple App Store and Google Play.
  • Couples Journey chapters (Going Deeper, Turn Up the Heat, Milestone) — non-consumable. Purchased once, available on the same Apple ID / Google account permanently. You can restore them on any device signed into that account with "Restore Purchases" in the Profile tab.
  • Grace Days — consumable, sold as 1 or 5. Each Grace Day protects your Daily Thread streak for one missed day when used. Grace Days are added to the shared balance on your couple record. Once a Grace Day is used it is gone, and Restore Purchases does not bring back Grace Days.
  • All purchases are handled by Apple or Google. We do not receive or store your payment details. Purchase validation and entitlement tracking are handled via RevenueCat.
  • Refunds — refund requests must be made directly to Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google Play (support.google.com/googleplay). We do not process refunds outside the platform processes.
  • Once a chapter is unlocked or a Grace Day is used, the purchase is non-refundable from our side except as required by law or your platform's policy.

6. Subscriptions

Pique does not offer subscriptions. If we introduce subscription features in the future, they will be clearly disclosed at the point of purchase, and these Terms will be updated accordingly.

7. Privacy

Our handling of your data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. By using the App, you agree to the Privacy Policy.

8. Availability and updates

  • We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The App depends on third-party services (Firebase, Apple/Google, network connectivity) and may occasionally be unavailable.
  • We may update, change, or remove features at any time. We will try to announce material changes in advance.
  • You may need to update to the latest version of the App to continue using certain features.

9. Suspension and termination

  • You may delete your account at any time in the App (Profile → Delete Account). Account deletion is permanent and irreversible.
  • We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, including the Acceptable Use rules above and, in version 1.0.x, the Roast Mode rules. In serious cases (harassment, illegal activity, circumvention) we may do so without notice.
  • Sections 4 (Your Content, license), 5 (Purchases), 10 (Disclaimers), 11 (Limitation of liability), and 13 (Governing law) survive termination.

10. Disclaimers

The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the App will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

Pique is an app for couples — it is not a mental health service, a marriage counselling service, or a substitute for professional advice. If you or your partner are experiencing relationship distress, please speak to a qualified professional.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pique, its operators, and its suppliers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or for fraud.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Pique harmless from any claim or demand made by a third party arising out of your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the App, or your infringement of another person's rights.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country of residence.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the App and posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. If you continue to use the App after the changes take effect, you accept the new Terms. If you do not agree, you may delete your account.
